
Introduction
There is a great demand for fruits in Uganda. This is due to the growth of food processing industry. For this reason, the horticulture program is raising thousands of quality fruit seedlings and training farmer in fruit production. Fruit seedlings include mango, pawpaw, citrus, passion fruits and avocado. These planting materials mature very early and produce quality fruits because they are grafted
Objective
Propagating and raising quality fruit tree seedlings to meet the end users demands.
Progress
Thousands of grafted seedlings of mango and citrus have been grafted and ready for sale. A good number has already been sold especially citrus. Both rootstocks of citrus and mango are ready for grafting and scions has to be bought from the farmers locally.
Future prospects
To keep the nursery green, activities such as raising and grafting should be carried out in stages so as to have grafted seedlings ready for planting throughout the season. production of over three million seedlings to be sold to the rural community for fruit production.
